To my mind and heart, today’s readings are heartbreaking examples of the maddeningly repetitive reality of human greed and lust for power. It never, ever ends well, for any society… ever.
Believe it or not, in a sense, the cure for rampant idolatry is to make everything an “idol”.
We start wars in the name of this idol.
We steal land from others in the name of this idol.
We enrich ourselves at the detriment of others in the name of this idol.
We kill in the name of this idol.
